Magic mushrooms and magic truffles come from the same organism — the Psilocybe fungus. The only difference is the part of the fungus you consume:
- Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies that grow above ground.
- Truffles (sclerotia) grow underground and store nutrients for the fungus.
Both contain psilocybin and psilocin, but magic truffles are legal in the Netherlands, while magic mushrooms are not. Truffles are slightly milder and offer a smoother, more predictable experience — making them ideal for beginners.
